Finnish firm Help Loan registered as MCO Capital at Companies House only began offering loans in the UK this Summer, they specialise in PayDay loans and it has become apparent that their procedure to check identity of their customers has been the target of identity fraudsters when around 5000 victims started to get letters towards the end of August that they had defaulted on loans they hadn’t even taken out and had no knowledge of.
Initial investigations by one victim showed that h
er date of birth and name matched but the mobile phone number and bank account details belonged to someone else. The company have said that the fraud has cost them around £1.5 million and they have now tightened their procedures and they are fully cooperating with Trading Standards and the Police.
The City of London police says those affected should write to Help Loan via the debt recovery firm it is using, Intrum Justitia, in order to register this as a “false loan”. http://www.intrum.co.uk/
I personally recommend also keeping a close eye on your credit history so that if any problems appear you can begin the steps to put it right.
