De-bugging, bug sweeping often sounds like it comes straight from the movies but is a more and more common occurrence. Data and privacy breeches are big business, knowledge is power and some people will stop at nothing to obtain their competitors information. Added to that bugging devices have become so inexpensive that they are essentially disposal and untraceable.
The loss of information can be far more damaging to a business than the loss of equipment or stock. Marketing campaigns, design ideas, share prices, client databases, trade secrets and business changes can all be leaked to you competitors.
These devices often come in things that look like everyday objects or can be hidden in other items. Electronic surveillance devices can often be put in place in seconds by someone who you wouldn’t necessarily suspect such as a trusted employee or business partner.
Boardroom meetings and hotel rooms may be worth checking in advance where sensitive information might be discussed.
If you have a feeling that your information is being passed on don’t discuss your feelings with anyone else, really more often than not someone close to you will be involved. Don’t use a phone in the area you think might be bugged or use your mobile.
